Optimize Performance of 200 ton Upset Ball Forge

Project Description:

  • Cam Size: 24” x 36”, 540 lbs.
  • Operation: 40 rpm

Problem Statement:

The operation of a newly installed 6” ball forge exhibits a rough, jerky motion that expresses itself as a lifting motion on the return half of each cycle.

Scope of Work:

  • Download customer supplied drawings into SolidWorks
  • Create a computer model of the forging machine cam assembly
  • Simulate machine operation to analyze current performance
  • Modify cam design to optimize performance
  • Create detail production drawings for suggested improvements

Design Portable Robot Arena

Project Description:  

  • NTMA National Robotic League
  • 15 pound robot class

Problem Statement:

Robot competition at the high school and college levels require a safe, easy-to-assemble-and-transport arena for Regional competition

Scope of Work:

  • Engineering project for Unitech summer Intern
  • Review NRL national standards
  • Investigate problems & features of current arenas
  • Develop concept for assembly/disassembly
  • Review alternate methods for storing and handling
  • Produce detailed design and assembly drawings
  • Generate detailed part list and bill of materials (BOM)
  • Create solid model of each part and the entire assembly
  • Design storage and transportation carts
  • Detail assembly instructions and photographs

Problem Statement:

Biotech Company requires the installation of 30 ventilated laboratory enclosures to be coordinated with the building construction schedule.

Scope of Work:

  • Review existing customer design drawings
  • Modify designs for ease of manufacturing
  • Determine weld locations for proper door and panel fits
  • Locate internal cutouts for lighting & control wiring
  • Generate bill of material and cut length for each component
  • Create solid models and detailed construction drawings
  • Sequence build schedule to meet customer delivery requirements
